Campaign UpdateNovember 12, 2007Election Day has come and gone, and we are in the runoff for Houston City Council District E. I could not be happier with our showing, as it is a result of the hard work of hundreds of supporters, volunteers, block walkers, phone bank workers, election poll workers, and friends that made it all happen. I could not be more proud to call each and every one of them my friend. Quick commentary on the election results. Let me first congratulate every candidate in this race. Running for public office is difficult enough, but to put yourself out there on the line for the public to see is a personal sacrifice. I absolutely applaud Wil Williams and Manisha Metha for their commitment to District E. Both ran great races, brought a lot of ideas to the forefront of the debate, and they represented themselves in a positive and professional manner. I am grateful to have received the full support and endorsement of Wil Williams. Wil is a dedicated community volunteer, and you have not heard the last of him. He will remain active in community affairs, and I have asked him to offer his counsel on issues important to him and his supporters. I will listen to him and give him a voice in this campaign. We have started our work to win the runoff. Our strategy remains the same, pointing out the differences that I have over the other candidates in this race. My message is strong, and resonated with 59% of the voters in Kingwood, versus 22% for my opponent. This translated into a difference of 2,000 votes in my favor! The next step in the runoff is for the Mayor to set a date for the election. After visiting with the City Secretary's office last week, it appears the date will be Saturday, December 8th, but this is not yet official. Thank you very much for your interest in my campaign, and for your support and prayers for victory. I appreciate each and every one of you more than you will ever know. Kim and Paige send their best and are grateful to have the broad based support that we do. |
